Two summers ago, our community came together to paint panels that would be installed on the risers of the westside stairs, much like this Photoshopped image.  The panels are complete, but permitting for the project got bogged down in the bureaucratic tangle of the City of Portand, State of Oregon, and the federal government (because the bridge spans an interstate freeway).  We plan to move ahead, secure in the knowledge that the project helps to further the goals of each of these entities in its benefit to the community and improve the usability and functionality of the area.
